Maker Skill

How the reworked Maker skill works in KuroMS: how you get it, what stimulators and gems do, gem and ore refining costs, and the recipe families added for KuroMS, taken from the live Maker data.

What Maker does

Maker is the crafting skill: it turns ores, monster materials and boss drops into equipment, refined plates and gems, strengthening gems and a few special items. KuroMS reworked it with reduced costs and expanded recipes, including jade crafting and level 77 Maple weapons. At the time of writing the live Maker data holds 541 recipes: 63 need Maker level 1, 145 need Maker level 2 and 333 need Maker level 3.

Positive outcomes only: Black Crystals and Dark Crystals only provide positive outcomes in KuroMS. When you add them to a craft, the random stats they roll can only go up.

Getting Maker

You do not need the old Maker quest line. Maker unlocks automatically with no quest, and the game grants it straight at its max level, 3. Explorers, Cygnus Knights and Aran each get their own copy of the skill.

The tooltip is the classic one. In KuroMS every recipe also carries its own character level and Maker level requirement, shown in the Maker window, and Maker level 3 recipes reach items up to level 210.

How equipment crafting works

  • Materials: Maker takes the required items from your inventory first, then from your ore and scroll storage.
  • Auto-crafting: if you are missing an intermediate material that Maker can make itself, it crafts it for you as part of the recipe and tells you: "Maker auto-crafted missing intermediary materials for this item."
  • Stimulator (optional): every stat the item already has gets a random bonus: +0 to +2 for STR, DEX, INT, LUK, WA, MA, accuracy, avoidability and jump, and +0 to +5 for weapon DEF, magic DEF, HP and MP. A stimulator never lowers a stat.
  • Weapon Stimulators are safe: they no longer have a chance to destroy your weapon.
  • Gem slots: items below level 78 take 1 gem, level 78 to 107 take 2 gems, and level 108 and above take 3 gems.
  • Attack gems are weapon-only: WATK and MATK Strengthening Gems can only be used on weapon items.
  • Fees: a stimulator and each gem add a meso surcharge on top of the recipe cost that scales with the item level and slot. Pinnacle, Tempest and Revolution recipes are completely meso-free, surcharges included.
  • Accessories: a crafted accessory with no upgrade slots gets 3 slots.
  • Bound materials: if a craft uses character-bound materials, the crafted item is character-bound too.
  • Coming later: a new special Enhancing Crystal will be unlocked later on.

Gems come in Basic, Intermediate and Advanced tiers. All costs below are from the live Maker data.

Every refine below takes 10 ores and needs Maker level 1, with no character level requirement.

Class and level locks

  • Pinnacle items can only be crafted by thieves.
  • Tempest items can only be crafted by mages.
  • Revolution items can only be crafted by warriors, archers and pirates.
  • Some weapon types in these three sets are not available through Maker at all; the game tells you "That weapon is not available through Maker."
  • Red Jade can only be crafted by Arans of level 70 or higher.
  • Chaos Scroll of Goodness 60% needs level 130 or higher.

Disassembly

What some KuroMS gear breaks down into

  • Timeless gear disassembles into Rock of Time: 1 for armor and accessories, 3 for weapons.
  • Royal, Eagle Eye and Trixter armor and Fafnir weapons return 1 to 3 Piece of Destruction.
  • Tyrant gloves, boots and cloaks return 1 Magnus's Letter.
  • AbsoLab gear and Damien's shields give back exactly the materials they cost.
