Bossing for Beginners
Posted by Nane
I've noticed that a lot of players feel a bit lost when they start joining bossing parties, so I decided to put together this guide to help out beginners. This is just an initial guide, and I plan to add more info over time. Hope you guys find it useful! 🎒 General Preparation Before stepping into any boss room, you need to have your inventory and pets ready. The golden rule is: 🚨 Wheels of Destiny (MOST IMPORTANT) : This is the very first thing you need before joining any run. If you die, the Wheel allows you to revive in the same map and keep fighting, saving your run and not letting your party down. You can buy them in the Cash Shop (CS) or from the NPC Kim in the FM (Free Market). Pet Auto-Pot & Auto All-Cure: Absolutely essential. Pets will keep you alive during heavy damage and status effect combos. All-Cure Potions : Instantly removes any debuff. Cheap Alternatives: If you don't have All-Cures, bring these potions sold by general NPCs across various towns (Victoria Island, Ludibrium, El Nath, etc.): Holy Water : Cures Seal (can't use skills) and Weakness (can't jump). Eye Drop : Cures Darkness (lowers accuracy). Antidote: Cures severe poison. ❤️ Minimum HP Requirements You need enough HP to survive at least one magic attack from the boss. Below are the minimum safe HP thresholds to avoid getting 1-hit KO'd (OHKO) (keep in mind that physical touch damage from bosses is usually much higher): Papulatus: ~4,000 HP. Enough to tank the magic attacks. Floor bombs deal around 8,000 damage, so just dodge them. Zakum: ~3,500 HP. Safe against fire pillars and lightning. Touching the main body deals around 8,000 physical damage, so avoid contact. Scarlion & Targa: ~4,500 to 5,000 HP. Castellan Toad: ~15,000 HP. His physical touch damage hits up to 18,000, so you must keep your distance and have at least 15k HP to safely tank his magic attacks. Horntail (HT): ~7,500 to 8,500 HP. This is strictly to survive the magic hits from the heads. Touching Horntail's Tail or Legs deals between 20,000 and 30,000 damage, which is instant death for almost all classes. Pink Bean (PB): ~22,000 to 24,000 HP. As a strict endgame boss, this is the bare minimum to survive AoE magic and accidental bumps. For Warriors, the goal is to hit the HP cap (30,000 HP), as they will be in the frontline taking physical touch damage constantly. ⚙️ Main Boss Mechanics To avoid getting caught off guard, every player needs to know the attacks and mechanics of each boss. Here is a rundown of what you need to watch out for: ⏰ Papulatus (Pap) Dispel: Constantly removes all your buffs. Re-buff immediately, especially Magic Guard (MG) for Mages and Hyper Body (HB) for Dark Knights. 1/1 Attack: An attack that drains your MP to 0 and drops your HP to 1. If your pet is too slow to heal, you might die to the next hit. Bombs: Explosive clocks that spawn on the floor and deal high damage. Keep moving and don't stand on them. 🪨 Zakum Weapon / Magic Cancel (Warrior is Mandatory): The most annoying mechanic. Zakum activates shields that completely nullify Physical damage (blue sword) or Magic damage (blue shield). It's essential to have a Warrior in the party to use Crash and break this defense. 1/1 + Fire Pillars: Watch the ground. Zakum combines the 1/1 attack with fire pillars dropping from the ceiling. 🦁 Scarlion & Targa (Scar/Targa) Weapon / Magic Cancel: Just like Zakum, they will cancel physical and magic attacks. A Warrior with Crash is required so the run doesn't become impossible. Positioning (Rush): They jump around a lot and the map is small. The main strategy is having a class with Rush to pin both of them into a corner, locking their movement and making it easier to focus DPS. 🐸 Toad (Castellan Toad) DPS Check (Time Limit): Todd is basically a massive HP sponge, but you have a very short time window to kill him (only 30 minutes). This requires a strong and focused party. Extreme Physical Damage: He doesn't have complex debuffs, the only real threat (besides the timer) is his absurd physical touch damage, which hits up to 18,000. Magic Cancel: He will cancel physical and magic attacks. Ne careful if you have mages on your party.. 🐉 Horntail (HT) Tail and Legs (1-Hit KO): These parts deal the highest damage (20k to 30k). The absolute priority of the expedition is to focus and kill the Tail and Legs first to open up a safe spot on the map. Seduce (Sed): The deadliest mechanic. HT forces your character to walk (usually towards the tail) and locks your potion usage. The only way to survive is by using Hero's Will or getting healed by a Bishop. Mass Dispel & Constant Cancels: The fight requires you to pay close attention to your buffs and the defensive shields the heads activate. 💖 Pink Bean (PB) Extreme Damage & Seduce: PB and its statues hit extremely hard. The fight also features the Seduce mechanic, requiring extra caution. Statue Order : Because of Seduce and other lethal mechanics, you MUST kill the statues in the correct order. The priority is taking down the Seduce statue first, followed by the Mage statue (which casts Reflect), and only then focusing on the others. Damage Reflect / DR (Warrior is Mandatory): The deadliest mechanic in the game. If you hit the Mage statue or PB itself while DR is active, you will get 1-hit KO'd instantly. It is mandatory to bring a Warrior, as they have the Crash skill to break the Damage Reflect. Even with a Warrior doing their job, the Expedition Leader must always call out when the party needs to stop attacking to be safe.
