How to play Kuro: account, browser client or launcher, first hour

How to join KuroMS, the classic v83 Pre-Big Bang project: create a free account, play in your browser at play.playkuro.com (the full Kuro client, nothing to download) or install the Kuro launcher on Windows, make your first character, unlock the Discord and make the most of your first hour.

Before you start

KuroMS is an independent v83 emulator project with classic Pre-Big Bang gameplay. The quickest way to play is the browser client at play.playkuro.com: nothing to install, the game data loads in the browser as you play, and it works on PC, Mac, phone and tablet. On Windows you can also use the Kuro launcher. Joining takes two things: a free website account and a character created in-game. Everything below comes from the Download page, the Register page, the Discord access page and the play in your browser guide.

Step by step

  1. 1. Create a free account: Go to Register. It takes about a minute and costs nothing. You need a username (4-12 characters, starting with at least 2 letters), a valid email, and a password (6-12 characters) typed twice. Tick the box to accept the Kuro Terms of Service, then press Register. Your website account is your game login: register once and use the same username and password in the browser client and the launcher.
  2. 2. Play in your browser (no install): Open play.playkuro.com on your PC, Mac, phone or tablet and sign in with your website username and password (automatic if you are signed in on playkuro.com). There is no manual client download or installer: the game data loads automatically in the browser as you play, so your first visit to each area uses some data. See play in your browser for every device, or play on a Mac. If you play this way, skip to step 5.
  3. 3. Optional on Windows: download the launcher: Prefer a desktop client on Windows? On the Download page, press Download the launcher (about 10 MB) to get kuro-launcher.exe. The launcher handles automatic game updates, game settings configuration, file integrity verification and one-click launch of the Kuro desktop client. The old game client (the original exe with the Kuro DLL) was retired with the October 26, 2026 patch and can no longer log in, so the launcher is the only desktop download.
  4. 4. Install and first launch: Run kuro-launcher.exe from your Downloads folder. The launcher automatically downloads and updates all game files; the first start downloads about 10 GB. When it is done, click Play in the launcher to open the Kuro desktop client (KuroClient.exe) and sign in with your website username and password. If the launcher asks which client to start, keep the new Kuro client (the default): the classic client is retired.
  5. 5. Log in and create a character: Characters are created in the game (in the browser or the launcher), so make your first one right after logging in. Back on the website, sign in to track your characters and Reward Credits from your dashboard. You need at least one character to receive vote rewards, and you claim them in game by typing @vote.
  6. 6. Unlock the Discord: The PlayKuro Discord is reserved for registered players. Follow the three steps on the Discord access page: create an account (or log in if you already have one), then on your dashboard click Connect with Discord and authorize. The Member role is granted instantly and the full Discord server opens up. If you link before joining the server, the dashboard tells you to join, and access unlocks automatically when you do.
  7. 7. Optional: Trusted IP access: Your dashboard sidebar has a Trusted IP access page under account security. It lets you request approval for the direct IPv4 address you regularly use; requests are reviewed manually by staff before the address is added to the trusted access list. Apply from the network you want to use for the game. VPN, proxy, WARP, relay and shared networks may be submitted. If your IPv4 changes, you can request a replacement, and your current approved IP stays active until staff approves it.

System requirements (Windows launcher)

These apply to the Windows launcher. The browser client only needs an up-to-date supported browser, a stable connection and some free space for the game data your browser caches.

Common issues

  • Antivirus warning: some antivirus software may flag the client. This is a false positive: add Kuro to your antivirus exceptions.
  • Connection issues: make sure your firewall allows kuro-launcher.exe and KuroClient.exe (the Kuro desktop client). Try running the launcher as administrator if you have connection problems.
  • Desktop client will not open: the Kuro desktop client runs on Microsoft Edge WebView2, which Windows 10 and 11 already include. If it stays blank, install the latest WebView2 Runtime from Microsoft and start the launcher again.

Your first hour

  • Claim your Daily Login Rewards. Everyone shares one global 14-day reward cycle that advances at midnight server time (JST/UTC+9), and only the current day can be claimed. Once per calendar week (Sunday to Saturday) you can also claim a weekly bonus, and every 6 weekly bonuses (not necessarily consecutive) pay out the 6-week milestone automatically. Progress is shared per household.
  • Level milestones: every 10 levels from level 10 gives a reward bundle (scrolls, inventory slots, teleport rocks, secondary weapons and more). Check yours with @milestone.
  • Hyper Teleport Rock: every new character starts with a free 7-day Hyper Teleport Rock, the level 70 and 120 milestones give more, Glibber in El Nath trades one for 5,000 Snowflakes, and Inkwell in the Free Market sells a 30-day one for 30 Perfect Pitch (quality-of-life services).
  • Pick your class: Explorers, Cygnus Knights and Aran are chosen when you create a character. A Beginner Explorer can also become a Dual Blade, Pathfinder, Cannoneer, Phantom, Shade or Mercedes at level 10 by talking to that class's NPC, or a Luminous at level 8 with Vieren in the Magic Library (Ellinia). 2nd, 3rd and 4th job are automatic at levels 30, 70 and 120.
  • Check drops before you grind: @wd and @wdf show real drop rates in-game.
  • Vote daily to stack voting rewards on top of your login rewards, then type @vote in game to claim them.
  • Invite friends: create your own referral code through KIN, Sera or the @referral commands; rewards unlock as your friends reach levels 10, 30, 70, 120 and 200.

  • @milestone: Check your level milestone rewards (every 10 levels from level 10).
  • @daily: Shows daily and weekly boss sections side by side.
  • @wd: See real drop rates.
  • @wdf: See real drop rates.
  • @qa: Run 30-minute auctions and auto-collect proceeds from Fredrick.
  • @togglemerch: Toggle notifications when your merchant items sell.
  • @fishing: Sit on a chair, or stand still on a mount, in the Free Market or any map without monsters to earn Perfect Pitch every 10 minutes while you AFK.
  • @joinevent: Join a scheduled event, such as a Jump Quest, when one is announced (from channel 1).
  • @quiz join: Opt in to KuroQuiz, the server-wide trivia, during sign-ups.
  • @q A / @q 2: Answer KuroQuiz questions (15 timed questions).
  • @referral: Manage your referral code and rewards.
  • @vote: Check your voting status, get the vote link and claim your vote rewards.
  • @nxstorage: Open NX Storage, the account-wide storage for chairs, mounts, cash items, pets and DP items.
  • @house: Go to your Player Housing house, or visit a friend's house with its code.

Do I need to download the Kuro client?

No. The browser client at play.playkuro.com is the full Kuro game client running in a browser tab: there is no manual download or installer, and the game data loads in the browser as you play. On Windows you can also use the Kuro launcher, which starts the Kuro desktop client (KuroClient.exe).
