Play on Mac and MacBook in your browser
Kuro runs in an up-to-date browser on macOS at play.playkuro.com: no Mac launcher to install, no Wine, CrossOver, Parallels or Boot Camp, and the same server and characters as Windows players. Here is how to start on a Mac, how the keyboard and trackpad work, and what to check if something is off.
Yes, Kuro runs on a Mac
Open play.playkuro.com in an up-to-date browser, sign in and play with keyboard and mouse, as on a PC. There is no manual client download and no installer: the game loads its data in the browser as you play. Players already play on Mac.
It is the same server and world as the Windows launcher, so you play alongside everyone else and any character on your account can log in. There is no macOS launcher, and on a Mac you do not need one.
Still a test service: As of October 2026 the browser client is a test service with frequent updates. The team tests it most in up-to-date Chrome. If something looks wrong on your Mac, report it on Discord.
What you need
- A Mac with an up-to-date browser. Kuro runs in the browser, so there is no separate version to pick for Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4) or Intel Macs. MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac and Mac mini all use the same link.
- A stable connection. Wi-Fi works well. Ping and responsiveness vary with your routing, your connection and your device.
- A free Kuro account. Register on playkuro.com. One account per person.
- Some free storage. Your browser keeps the game data it has loaded in its cache, so later visits load faster.
No Wine, CrossOver, Parallels or Boot Camp
Some classic servers in our server comparison ship a Windows client and point Mac players to CrossOver, Wine or a Windows virtual machine. None of that applies to Kuro: the browser client runs directly in your browser on macOS, so there is no Windows program to wrap, no virtual machine such as Parallels to set up and no Boot Camp partition to make.
The launcher on the download page is for Windows. On a Mac, skip it and play in the browser.
Start playing on a Mac
- Create a free account: Register on playkuro.com. One Kuro account works for the game, the website and the forum. Discord access needs your own Discord account, linked from your dashboard: see the getting started guide.
- Open play.playkuro.com: Open play.playkuro.com in your browser. If you are signed in on playkuro.com, the game signs you in automatically. Otherwise, sign in with your website username and password.
- Pick a channel and a character: Choose a channel, then play an existing character or create a new one right in the browser.
- Go full screen: Use your browser's full screen: View > Enter Full Screen, or the green button at the top left of the window. New here? Read the getting started guide.
Keyboard, trackpad and mouse
- You play with keyboard and mouse, the same controls as the desktop client on Windows.
- A MacBook trackpad works as the mouse, as on any web page. With the standard macOS setting, a two-finger click is a right click. If clicking and dragging items feels slow on the trackpad, plug in a mouse.
- The browser client saves your key bindings and settings such as resolution, scaling and sound in this browser, so they are still there next time. Clearing the site data for play.playkuro.com resets them.
- Browser shortcuts still apply while you play: Cmd+W closes the tab and Cmd+Q quits the browser.
Performance and battery tips
- Crowded maps such as the Free Market are the heaviest scenes. Close tabs and apps you do not need.
- Game data downloads as you play, most on your first visit to each area. Later visits load faster from the browser cache.
- For long sessions on a MacBook, plug in the charger.
- Switching networks mid-session no longer sends you back to character select.
If something is off
- The game does not load: update your browser and reload the page. If it still does not load, try up-to-date Chrome, which the team tests most.
- You are not signed in: sign in on playkuro.com first, or sign in on the game screen with your website username and password.
- New areas load slowly: that is the game data downloading on your first visit. A stable connection helps.
- Low on disk space: the cached game data needs some free space. Clearing the site data for play.playkuro.com removes it, together with your saved client settings.
- Still stuck: report it on Discord with your Mac model, your macOS version and your browser.
Also works on Linux and Chromebook
The same browser client runs on Linux and ChromeOS with no Wine or other compatibility layer, and players play on both. Touch-screen Chromebooks get the on-screen touch controls. For phones, tablets and Steam Deck, see play in your browser.
