Play in your browser: phone, tablet, PC and more

Kuro runs in supported browsers at play.playkuro.com: no manual client download, no installer, and the same server and characters as the Windows client. Game data loads automatically in the browser as you play. Here is what works on each device, how the touch controls work, and how to start.

What browser play is

play.playkuro.com is the full Kuro game client running in a browser tab. You skip the manual client download, the installer, antivirus exceptions and DirectX setup: open one link and sign in, and the game loads its data in the browser as you play.

It is the same server and world as the Windows launcher: any character on your account can log in, characters made in the browser are normal characters, and everyone plays together. It is always up to date, so there is nothing to patch. Handy on a personal laptop where you would rather not install anything, and on your phone.

Still a test service: As of October 2026 the browser client is a test service with frequent updates, so expect rough edges and report them on Discord. The team tests it most in up-to-date Chrome, and players have played on every device listed below. One account per person.

What works on each device

  • Device | How you play | Good to know
  • Windows PC or laptop | An up-to-date supported browser with keyboard and mouse, or the Windows launcher | Same controls as the desktop client
  • Mac | Played by players: an up-to-date browser with keyboard and mouse | Player-tested. There is no launcher for macOS
  • Linux | Played by players: an up-to-date browser with keyboard and mouse | Player-tested. A browser client needs no Wine
  • Chromebook | Played by players: Chrome with keyboard and touchpad, or touch | Player-tested. Touch screens get the on-screen controls
  • Android phone | An up-to-date supported browser such as Chrome, landscape, on-screen controls | Tap FULL for full screen
  • iPhone | Safari, landscape, on-screen controls | Use Add to Home Screen for full screen
  • iPad or Android tablet | Touch controls, or a keyboard and mouse | The bigger screen makes the classic interface easier to read
  • Steam Deck | Played by players: a browser in Desktop Mode, or added to Steam as a non-Steam game | Player-tested on Steam Deck. Built-in gamepad support, 1280 x 800 preset, right-stick cursor

Touch controls on phones and tablets

On a touch screen the on-screen controls switch on by themselves. Every button presses a key from your own key setup, so your class plays the way you bound it.

  • Stick: walk, climb, go prone and enter portals.
  • ATK, JUMP, LOOT and TALK: attack, jump, pick up and talk to the nearest NPC.
  • Hotkey pages for skills, potions and items. Hold an empty hotkey, or drag a skill or item onto it, to assign it.
  • WIN opens Item, Equip, Stat, Skill, Quest, Map and the game menu.
  • Your finger is the mouse: tap to click, double tap to use or equip, long press for a right click, drag to move windows and items, two fingers to scroll.
  • CHAT opens your phone keyboard. Press Send to post the message.
  • SET changes button size, opacity and hotkey count, switches to a left-handed layout and lets you move every control.

Turn your phone sideways: The game is built for a landscape screen. With a keyboard and mouse attached, you can turn the on-screen controls off in SET.

Connection and performance

  • You need an up-to-date supported browser and a stable connection. Wi-Fi or a strong mobile signal works best.
  • Ping and responsiveness vary with your routing, your connection, your device and the client you use, so the browser and the launcher can feel different.
  • Game data downloads automatically as you play, so it uses data, most on your first visit to each area. On mobile data, that counts toward your plan.
  • Storage is separate from download size: your browser keeps the game data it has loaded in its cache so later visits load faster, which needs some free space on your device. Clearing the site data for play.playkuro.com removes it.
  • Switching networks mid-session, for example from Wi-Fi to mobile data, no longer sends you back to character select.
  • Crowded maps such as the Free Market are the heaviest scenes. On an older phone, close other tabs and apps first.

Start playing in four steps

  1. Create a free account: Register on playkuro.com. One Kuro account works for the game (browser and launcher), the website and the forum. Discord access needs your own Discord account, linked from your dashboard: see the getting started guide.
  2. Open play.playkuro.com: Open play.playkuro.com. If you are signed in on playkuro.com, the game signs you in automatically.
  3. Pick a channel and a character: Choose a channel, then play an existing character or create a new one right in the browser.
  4. Go full screen and play: On a phone, turn it sideways and tap FULL (on iPhone, start from a Home Screen icon). New here? Read the getting started guide.

Questions by device

Do I need to download anything?

There is no manual client download or installer: open play.playkuro.com and sign in. The game data then loads automatically in the browser as you play, which uses data, most on your first visit to each area. Your browser also stores that data in its cache, so keep some free space on your device.

Can I play on an Android phone?

Yes. Use Chrome or another up-to-date supported browser, turn the phone sideways and tap FULL. The classic interface is small on a phone, so a larger phone or a tablet is more comfortable for menus.

Can I play on an iPhone or iPad?

Yes, in Safari. Safari on iPhone has no full screen, so use Share, Add to Home Screen and start from that icon. On an iPad you can also use a keyboard and mouse or trackpad.

Can I play on a Mac?

Yes, players play on Mac. Open play.playkuro.com in an up-to-date browser and play with keyboard and mouse, as on a PC. There is no macOS launcher. Tell us on Discord how it runs.

Can I play on Linux or a Chromebook?

Yes, players play on both. The browser client needs no Wine or compatibility layer: use an up-to-date browser on Linux or ChromeOS. Touch-screen Chromebooks get the touch controls.

Can I play on a Steam Deck?

Yes, players play on Steam Deck. Open a browser in Desktop Mode, or add it to Steam as a non-Steam game for Game Mode, with a controller layout that keeps the gamepad. The client has a 1280 x 800 preset, and the right stick moves a menu cursor.

Is it the same server as the Windows launcher?

Yes. Same server, world and account. Play any character in the browser, create new ones there, and switch to the launcher whenever you like.

Is browser play free?

Yes. Kuro is free to play in the browser and with the launcher, with optional donations.
