English to Japanese Glossary: JMS Names for Game Terms

KuroMS runs an English client. This glossary pairs the in-game English names of jobs, skills, towns, training maps, bosses, monsters, scrolls and items with the names Japanese players know from JMS, plus common player slang and Kuro-only terms.

How to use this glossary

Everything in KuroMS is shown in English: chat, NPCs, item names and skills. If you learned the game on JMS, use these tables to find the English name you need, or search the page for a Japanese or English word. English speakers who play with Japanese friends can use it the other way round.

Pre-BB names and current JMS names: Some names changed in JMS after the Big Bang update. Where we could confirm both, the table shows the pre-BB name (pre-BB) and the current JMS name (current JMS). Names marked (nickname) are what players commonly say.

Searching in game: In-game search tools use the English name. Type @wd with an item name to see which monsters drop it, and @wdf with a monster name to see its drops.

How we checked: every Japanese name here was compared with JMS game data for the same ID, and pre-BB names with a Japanese player wiki for that era. Kuro has reworked some skills and items, so a matching name does not always mean matching stats. Kuro-only content keeps its English name.

Jobs and job advancement

Explorer jobs with their 2nd, 3rd and 4th job names. Watch out for the warrior names: JMS swaps Crusader and White Knight, and calls the Fighter ソードマン.

  • Marauder | バッカニア | 3rd job. JMS name is バッカニア.

Dual Blade, Cannoneer and Pathfinder

Kuro adds these Explorer classes, unlocked at their usual levels. Kuro's Dual Blade has four stages instead of five, so the table matches them by name, not by job number.

Key skills

The well-known skills for each branch, about five to seven per line. Kuro reworked many 4th job skills and uses newer names for some of them; the Japanese column follows the skill you actually get in Kuro.

  • Heaven's Hammer | セングチュアリ | Paladin 4th job. JMS name is セングチュアリ.

These names come from Kuro's own route and have no JMS equivalent. Use the English name when you ask for help.

Scrolls

In JMS scrolls are called 書. Upgrade scrolls follow one pattern: [stat]の書([slot]) plus the success rate, so Scroll for Gloves for ATT 60% is 攻撃の書(手袋)60%. Learn the slot words and you can read any scroll.

  • Scroll for Gloves for ATT | 攻撃の書(手袋) | Glove attack scroll. 手袋 = gloves.
  • Scroll for One-Handed Sword for ATT | 攻撃の書(片手剣) | Weapon scrolls use the weapon type: 片手剣, 短剣, 弓 and so on.
  • Scroll for Bow for ATT | 攻撃の書(弓) | Bow.
  • Scroll for Claw for ATT | 攻撃の書(投擲) | Claw = 投擲 in JMS item names.
  • Scroll for Wand for Magic Att. | 魔力の書(杖) | Wand = 杖.
  • Scroll for Staff for Magic Att. | 魔力の書(棒) | Staff = 棒. Easy to mix up with Wand.
  • Scroll for Gun for ATT | 攻撃の書（銃） | Gun.
  • Scroll for Knuckler for ATT | 攻撃の書（ナックル） | Knuckle.

  • Chaos Scroll of Goodness | 肯定の混沌の書 | Kuro version is reworked; same item name.
  • Miraculous Chaos Scroll | 驚きの混沌の書 | Kuro version is reworked; same item name.
  • Clean Slate Scroll | 白の書 (pre-BB) / 純白の書 (current JMS) | Restores a failed upgrade slot. Not the same item as White Scroll.
  • White Scroll | （同名アイテムなし） / ファムの歌 | Protects slots when a scroll fails. Same effect as the JMS ファムの歌. Players call it WS.
  • Innocence Scroll | イノセントの書 | Resets an item to its base stats.
  • Lucky Day Scroll | ラッキーデイの書 | Raises the success rate of the next scroll. Kuro has several tiers.
  • Vega's Spell | ベガの呪文書 | Raises a 10% or 60% scroll to a higher rate.

White Scroll is not 白の書: White Scroll protects your slots when a scroll fails, like the JMS ファムの歌. The JMS 白の書 is the Clean Slate Scroll, which restores a failed slot.

  • AP / SP | AP / SP | AP = stat points, SP = skill points (same letters in JMS).

Kuro terms and commands

Kuro-only systems keep their English names. Here is what they mean.

  • Perfect Pitch | （英語名のまま） | Kuro's main currency. Trade it for rare items at Inkwell in the Free Market; @fishing earns it while AFK. The same item ID is ゴールドピック in JMS, but players say Perfect Pitch.
  • Reward Credits | （英語名のまま） | Earned by voting; claim at the KIN NPC and spend in the Cash Shop (pets and pet equipment).
  • Milestone rewards | （英語名のまま） | Rewards every 10 levels from level 10. Open with @milestone or @ms.
  • Player Guide | （英語名のまま） | In-game route list by level. Open with @guide.
  • Blue Gachapon / Silver Gachapon | （英語名のまま） | Kuro reworked Gachapons; Blue covers levels 1 to 40.
  • Ironman / Reboot | （英語名のまま） | Optional Ironman/Reboot play mode, set up with the Sasuke NPC.
  • Superior bosses | （英語名のまま） | Kuro's end-game boss tier (Arkarium, Gollux, Magnus and more).

  • @fm: Warp to the Free Market (level 10 and up).
  • @iamnew: New-player help for levels 1 to 180: self buffs, a first-use medal, and free 2x EXP (90 min) and 2x drop (120 min) coupons.
  • @help: List every player command (@commands works too).
  • @dispose: Fixes a stuck NPC chat.
  • @town: Return to your 1st job instructor town.
  • @guide: Open the in-game Player Guide.
  • @storage: Open your ore and scroll storage.
  • @milestone / @ms: Open the milestone rewards window.
  • @wd: Search which monsters drop an item (type the English item name).
  • @wdf: Search what a monster drops (type the English monster name).
  • @search: Search items, NPCs, monsters, maps, quests and skills.
  • @autopickup: Toggle automatic pickup for you and your pets.
  • @fishing: Earn Perfect Pitch every 10 minutes while seated (or still on a mount) in a map without monsters.
  • @daily: See which daily and weekly bosses you have cleared.
  • @br: Show field boss respawn times on your map (@bossrespawn).
